5 Ways to keep from losing money on conferences

Every few weeks, announcements for various conferences around the
country come into my email box. 90% of them offer an EarlyBird
special about 3-4 months before the event. While it’s true that
most people wait until the last minute (sometimes the last day) to
register, taking advantage of these specials could save you a full
thousand dollars.

For example, the Spread the Word has a registration of $997 per
person and involves 2-3 days in a luxury hotel. Anyone living more
than 4 hours from Atlanta would most likely need airline tickets as
well. With rooms going for $109/night and airfare off the charts,
that could spell a lot of outlay.

However, taking advantage of the EarlyBird special gives you these
discounts:

1. registration of $797 (keeps you from losing $200) BUT if you register with a
friend that price drops to $650 each (keeps you from losing $347)

2. with more than 3 months lead-in time, airfare averages $300 for
a roundtrip ticket from most major airports (keeps you from losing up to $500)

3. sharing a room when the hotel says they are charging the same
